• What is a domain name?

  A domain or domain name is the name of a website operating on the internet which is commonly used to replace a long and complicated IP address like 123.45.67.89 with a 'Domain Name' in the form of abc.com. Below is some information to help you better understand what the domain name is.

  Eg.: The domain google.com is assigned to the IP address 74.125.200.113

  Internet users can easily find a website or communicate via an email address with a meaningful and memorable domain such as mycompany.com or www.sacomtec.com. Now you don’t have to memorize a long, complex string of numbers.

• What is DNS?

  DNS stands for the Domain Name System which is defined as a hierarchical and decentralized naming system. Basically, DNS changes the websites formatted as www.domain.com into IP addresses or vice versa.

  Technically, DNS connects network devices to position and assign a specific address to information on the internet.

• What is ICANN?

  ICANN stands for the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, which is an internationally organized, non-profit corporation, and has responsibility for the management of all domain name types.

  Originally, ICANN was founded on 18/09/1998, and officially became the organization dedicated to preserving the operational stability of the Internet, under the United States, on 30/09/1998. ICANN manages the scope of the internet infrastructure like:

  • Manage the database of domain name system.
  • Manage, assign and authorize the accredited parties to assign IP addresses by region.
  • Issue reasonable policies to develop and internationalize the system of top-level domains.
• Will my domain information be public?

  As a rule, domain information is always publicly available worldwide and can be viewed by anyone. However, you may register privacy protection services / proxy services to have your domain details encrypted, and not publicly presented to others.

• What domain extension can I register?

  You may choose to register domain names on your purposes and business. Here below are some popular generic TLDs that you may be interested in:

  .com domain names
  .COM is the most popular TLD which you may see a lot on the internet like google.com, facebook.com,... The TLD .com is commonly known as ‘commercial’, and unrestricted to both individuals and entities.

  .net domain names
  The second-most commonly registered TLD is .NET. It derived from the word ‘network’ and intended for organizations involved in networking technologies. .net domain names are not restricted so anyone can register a .net for their website.

  .gov domain names
  GOV is the shortened name of ‘government’. The domain names under .gov are dedicated to government and related departments. In addition, its second level domains may be geographically followed by a ccTLD such as .gov.vn.

  .org domain names
  ORG is shortened by the word ‘organization’. Non-profit organizations, government, authorities, etc. can register and use .org domain names.

  .edu domain names
  This TLD stands for education. All education-related websites own their .edu domain names.

  .info domain names
  .INFO is the abbreviation of the word “information”. The websites that own .info domain names are mostly huge data stores. Therefore, these websites often store certain information and resources.

• What should I do if the domain I intend to register has been taken?

  If the domain you select has already been registered, you can choose another or contact the domain owner for a deal.

• Can I change to another domain registrar after my domain has been registered?
